What is Panchang?
Panchang (Panchangam) means “five limbs”. Every Hindu day is described by its tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (the Moon’s star), yoga (a combination of Sun and Moon) and karana (half a tithi). Together they decide whether a moment suits worship, travel, business or ceremonies.
How to use today’s Panchang
- Check the tithi for fasts and festivals such as Ekadashi, Pradosh, Chaturthi and Purnima.
- Avoid starting new work during Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal.
- Prefer Abhijit muhurat around midday and good choghadiyas (Amrit, Shubh, Labh) for important tasks.
- Avoid Vishti (Bhadra) karana for auspicious beginnings.
Why Panchang changes by city
Sunrise and sunset differ across India by up to two hours, so the tithi at sunrise, Rahu Kaal and choghadiya timings change by city. Choose your city above for accurate times.
